The Hojize district was the inland entry for the Outer City of Otosan Uchi and surrounded the Hinjaku district. It was a rich district, with many merchant quarters. By Imperial Decree its appearance must be stunning, as travelers entering the Imperial City first seen this district. [1]
Scorpion Coup
In 1123 during the Scorpion Coup the Hojize district was not taken by the Scorpion in the first days of assault. [2] The Scorpion set the Toyotomi district in flames to flush Lion resistant cells out, and the fire spread, engulfing many heimin homes across the Meiyoko, and Hojize districts. [3] During the fourth day it was occupied by the united forces of the Clans and Hida Kisada himself. [4] Resistance cells were destroyed on the fifth day. [5]
After the Coup
The governor Mirumoto Hojize died of a heart-attack in the last days of the Coup, and eventually the district was merged with the Hinjaku district, under the command of Hojize's cousin, Mirumoto Hinjaku. Hinjaku retained the name "Hojize" for the newly combined district, in honor of his fallen cousin. He dedicated his resources to establishing several temples, shrines, torii arches, and other holy sites within the Hojize district. [6]
