Asahina Hiya was a shugenja of the Crane Clan who was cast out for his father's madness, and joined the Dragon Clan. In return he was granted with his own family, becoming the Hiasobi Daimyo, Tamori Hiya of House Hiasobi.

Tragedy[]

His father Maryoku was extremely talented with Kagaku, and sought enlightenment standing in the hottest part of the flames. In one of these fugue states, the flames went out of control and set the house ablaze. His wife Asahina Hiyako died, and Hiya was badly burned, and nearly died from the wounds. Hiya survived, his face scarred, while his father was driven mad by the realization of what he had done. [1]

Ronin[]

Maryoku and his students were forced to make one of his light displays during a wedding. In his madness, Maryoku poured into a nearby koi pond his last research, a potion that burned in contact with water. The outcome was a burned house, many guests injured, the betrothed incinerated, and Maryoku himself ablaze. Hiya and his father's followers were cast out of the Crane Clan by Asahina Handen. [2]

Aftermath[]

The Tamori wished to learn Maryoku's potion, so they accepted the group into their family, and Hiya was given his own vassal family, the Hiasobi. The new family did not have the master's secret, so they worked on developing the potion. [2]
