People

Heichi Chokei was a Boar Clan shugenja and monk.

Daimyo without Clan[]

Chokei was the last living member of the Boar Clan [1] and appeared to demonstrate knowledge of at least some of the Boar fighting style. [2] Despite he was technically the Boar Clan Champion, for all intents and purposes he was considered a ronin, as the Boar Clan had been considered destroyed centuries past, despite some survivors. [3]

Advisor[]

Chokei had seen many battles and studied across the Empire, and he was specially trusted by Hida Kisada. [4] He served as an advisor and aide to the Crab Clan Champion for a time. [5]

Quest[]

Chokei had the broken daisho of his defunct clan, and he spent years wandering Rokugan, tracing bloodlines. Where a descendant of the Boar existed, Chokei came there to tell he once would return to rebuild the Boar Clan. Eventually his travels brought him to Kyuden Hida, and during a meeting with Kisada, the Great Bear offered the shugenja whatever aid the Crab could offer to get his goal. All Chokei had to do was follow Kisada's every command, no matter what it was, until the war was over. Chokei, accepted, despite he did not know which war was he talking about. [5]

Clan War[]

The Crab moved north, during Kisada's quest for power, with Chokei with them. He spent months marching in the company of undead and oni, wondering if the price of the bargain was too high. [5]

Retirement[]

He retired to a monastery after the Clan War. [1] Shortly after the Last Boar retired to the Brotherhood of Shinsei, he first recorded the spell Facing Your Devils. When asked who it was for, Chokei said, "For whoever is brave enough to use it." [6]

Death[]

Chokei foresaw his death shortly before the march to Volturnum. He travelled to the Twilight Mountains with Togashi Mitsu, where he paid his respects to his family and apologized for his failures. [7] In 1133 Chokei died in the Battle of Oblivion's Gate. [8]
