|Please note: This article is about the Fortune. For other uses of the term, please see Hamanari (disambiguation).|
Hamanari was the Fortune of Fish and Generous Meals. He was very popular in the village of Mimura due to the amount of fishing. A few shrines had been erected near riverbanks and bridges to honor Hamanari. There was no specific holiday to commemorate him. A popular comedic figure in peasant culture was the lazy fisherman providing lip service to the Fortune while whiling away his time at the water's edge.
