Gyushi family

Clan: Spider Clan
Founded: c. 1178
Daimyo: Gyushi

The Gyushi family was a vassal family in service to the Daigotsu family of the Spider Clan.

Founding Edit

Chuda Gyushi was a craftsman and an armourer of the Chuda family. When the Chuda betrayed their oaths of loyalty to the Spider Clan after Empress Iweko I declared the Spider a Great Clan, Gyushi forsook his former line and swore fealty to the Spider Clan. [1]

Duty Edit

Gyushi was accepted into the Daigotsu and after he had forged the Ancestral Armor of the Spider Clan Gyushi was granted the right to found his own vassal Family [2] by Daigotsu Kanpeki, alongside an armoury and the promise that if he betrayed his lords, it would be the last thing he ever did.

Thus the Spider Clan came to possess a Juhin-Kenzoku (i.e. a quartermaster or forging family) like all the other Great Clans. [1]

Great Clan Family Edit

After the Chuda defection the Spider had recruited shugenja from the students of Asako Kinuye, who lived in the place known as Kinuye's Grove. In 1199 Daigotsu Kanpeki severed any new recruitment from that place after he realized one of these students was not a human being anymore. The Spider Clan Champion summoned Daigotsu Gyushi, requesting him to provide the Spider with its shugenja ranks. [3] The Gyushi family was elevated to a full family of the Spider Clan, taking the name Gyushi. He carefully selected its individual members and slowly increased pressure on them until they become as strong as steel. [2]

Rise of Jigoku Edit

The Gyushi family stood with the Empire when the rebellious Daigotsu Kanpeki warred the Emperor Iweko II. The last action in Gyushi daimyo's life was to deface a shrine to the Dark Lord himself. The Gyushi thwarted a major Spider attack after the Third Seal was broken, which had given the upperhand to the Spider, although nothing had been heard from the Gyushi since. [4]

Sources Conflict
The sources relating to this article are in conflict with each other.
''Book of Earth (p.36, sidebar) mentions that Chuda Gyushi swore fealty to the new Spider Champion, Daigotsu Kanpeki, when the Chuda family left the Spider Clan in 1173. Kanpeki was still a child at that time, and the Spider Clan ruled by the Council of the Spider. Leadership was only passed on to Kanpeki when he came of age, although Gyushi could have been swearing to the future rule of Kanpeki.
