Goju Kyoden was once the son of the ronin Yotsu. When Empress Hantei Hochiahime's caravan was attacked by a Bloodspeaker cult Yotsu snuck into their camp and exchanged his son with the young heir to the throne Hantei Sotorii.[1] Kyoden was raised by the Bloodspeakers and later became the yojimbo to the half brother of Sotorii, Daigotsu.

Daigotsu awarded Kyoden the title of Obsidian Champion when he created the Lost. Kyoden was defeated by Matsu Nimuro at the Fall of Otosan Uchi. When Daigotsu had been killed by the Four Winds, Kyoden sacrificed himself in payment to the Shadow Dragon so that Daigotsu would be brought back to life.[2][3]
