Gohei was a ceremonial wand or staff decorated with silk and papier-mache, blessed by the spirits to bring good fortune. Shugenja and monks used to bear them. [1] During childbirth the Crab Clan had the custom to have a guardian always vigilant over the house holding a gohei. [2]
