The Four Gates were the four entrances to the Hundred Stances Dojo. The North Gate was called the Gate of Thunder; the East Gate was the Gate of Wind, the South Gate was the Gate of Fire, and the West Gate was the Gate of Rain. All four took their names from the natural phenomena which often occurred around the dojo. [1]
