Fudoism was the religion and philosophy devoted to the teachings of the prophet Fudo,[1] recorded in the Writings of Fudo.[2] This was not well received in many areas, and sometimes even called into question by some of the Brotherhood.[3]
Heresy[]
Fudo believed each man had to find his own, unique path, encouraging the abandonment of every sort of ideal including honor, Bushido, and even the Tao itself, which limited the perception of the individual. Some among his students became truly deplorable and depraved individuals, completely unconcerned with anything but their own perceptions of reality. The Fudoism was eventually censored by the Brotherhood as heretical, and the Fudoist escaped the Empire or went into hiding. Some temples were established in the Ivory Kingdoms.[4]
Madness[]
His followers expanded his interpretation of the Tao, becoming quite popular within the Colonies.[5] During the end of the 12th century had begun a growing wave of insanity in the Colonies. The Second City Governor Otomo Suikihime ordered to burn the province in its entirety to cleanse it from madness and the Fudoists.[6] The erratic behaviour of the governor eventually led to the Siege of the Second City by the Ninth Imperial Legion.[7] The mad dragon P'an Ku finally revealed himself as the driving force behind these tightening coils of madness. Cultists of Fudo and cultists of P'an Ku took up arms and vie for theological supremacy over the Colonies.[8] The Fudoist attacked and killed anyone they suspected might have succumbed to the influx of P'an Ku.[9]
Purge of Fudoism[]
Throughout the Colonies, the monasteries and hidden strongholds of the Fudo cult were sought out and put to the torch by the Rokugani. Those who had embraced the blasphemous philosophy either recanted and were taken into custody, or refused, and were slain outright.[10]
