Kawanga
A kawanga was a simple metal climbing hook attached to a length of hemp or silk rope. It could also be used as a weapon to entangle an opponent. [1] Some kawanga featured a padded or silken cloth cover over the hook which would reduce any noises it would make when it contacted a hard surface. A kawanga was strong enough to support the weight of several climbers. [citation needed]
