Kakita Yariga was a bushi duelist of the Crane Clan.
Training[]
Yariga's grandfather had been killed in combat at Shiro no Yojin before Yariga was born, which devastated his mother. Upon his gempukku Yariga decided to become a scout, trained by the Daidoji, and fought in many skirmishes against the Matsu. [1]
Second Yasuki War[]
Yariga was part of the Crane forces who opposed the Crab in the Second Yasuki War. During that war he met Daidoji Ekiken, an unsettling samurai. Eventually, Yariga scoured Ekiken and showed a sabotage performed by the secret Harriers, who had used gaijin pepper to destroy an enemy dock. Yariga suffered a broken leg from the event, but his commander told Yariga to say nothing, and two days later he received new orders, to meet the new Kakita Daimyo Kakita Noritoshi. [1]
Sensei[]
Noritoshi explained that some secrets must remain secret. [1] Yariga was selected as sensei at the Kakita Dueling Academy, and became a good friend of Noritoshi. He was quite adept at keeping the students orderly and productive. Because of his loyalty, Yariga was often left in charge of the Academy when Noritoshi's business took him elsewhere. [2]
Fall of Otosan Uchi[]
Yariga encountered Ekiken again just after Otosan Uchi fell to Daigotsu. They exchanged pleasantries and knowing glances, but Yariga honored Noritoshi's wishes and never spoke of what he saw. [1]
