Ballista
Ballista was a missile weapon which launched a large projectile at a distant target. Each hit could inflict a sheer amount of damage although with a low rate of fire. [1]

The first ballistae the Kaiu developed, based loosely on the dai-kyu, were crude and fairly ineffective. At some point, the family came into possession of a crossbow that had once belonged to Yobanjin raiders, and the Kaiu immediately incorporated several design changes to their fledgling ballista, improving its effectiveness more than tenfold. [2] The ballistae were widely used by the Crab Clan as a defensive siege engine in the Kaiu Wall, and were built on the decks of the Atakebune ships. [3] They also were used against the forces of Kali-Ma in the Destroyer War, enhanced by the Kaiu Engineer Kaiu Kyoka. [4]
