Asako Katsuhito was a shugenja of the Phoenix Clan, secretely a bloodspeaker,[1] and the Champion of Honor in death.

Bloodspeaker[]

Katsuhito had abandoned the oaths he took in favor of promises forged of ambition and avarice, and regreted his bloodspeaker membership. While he was seeking redemption looked as a distant scholar. [2] He used to pray in the shrines he found in his way. [3]

Desertion[]

Katsuhito had been assigned to the Shogun forces fighting on the Kaiu Kabe in 1165, and deserted. It was looked as if his mind could not take so much violence. [3]

Crossroads Village[]

He crossed all of Rokugan, before ending in a small temple in Crossroads Village, recommended by a monk he had met during his station at the wall. In the temple he talked with Kakita Korihime, a Crane courtier who also had been sent to the temple by another monk, at Toshi Ranbo. The monk Koan, leader of the Order of Heroes, gathered them to a group of samurai: Shosuro Maru, Bayushi Muhito, Ikoma Fujimaro, Matsu Masutaro and Shiba Danjuro. Danjuro had arrived following Katsuhito's tracks, to convince him to return back to the Shogun's army. Koan told he had manipulated them in order to take the group into the village. Forty eight bandits would arrive to ask the villagers tribute they could not afford. Two other villages had been already razed when they could not pay the amount they had asked. The assembled samurai rallied to defend the village. [2]

Death[]

Katsuhito's doubts were shattered by Danjuro's supportive attitude, even after he confessed his dark past, and he decided to redeem himself. The group knew a shugenja was among the bandit ranks, proving much difficult the defence. Katsuhito stunned Danjuro moments before the battle, took Danjuro's armor and charged alone through the bandits, killing the shugenja in a suicide attack. Muhito was grievously wounded, Masutaro died taking in return Kobuta's life, and only Maru was not bathered or injured. The village had survived at great cost. Koan proclaimed they had represented the virtues of Bushido, becoming the Champions of Bushido. Katsuhito had died as the Champion of Meyo (Honor). [4]
