Churetsu was the Celestial Sword of the Scorpion Clan, one of the eight blades commissioned by Lord Sun from the Xing Guo, the Fortune of Steel, and given to the Clan Champions. [1]

Appearance Edit

Churetsu was forged to be the plainest looking of all the Celestial Swords, this allowed it to blend in very easily, and for copies to be made. To the common eye it appeared as a completely, standard unawakened katana, with a simple wooded saya. To the true Scorpion Clan Champion the sword always had a red glow around it. [2] Only the true Scorpion Champion could see the glory and beauty of the blade. [3]

Abilities Edit

The sword was one of the deadliest weapons in the Empire, able to cut through bone, flesh, and steel with ease. [4]

Safety protocol Edit

The sword was enchanted by Yogo Masuhiro, commanded by Scorpion Clan Champion Bayushi Yojiro, to return to Kyuden Bayushi should its owner ever be killed. It returned to a special room, the Chamber of Swords, full of dozens of copies of the sword that randomly moved at night. This allowed the next champion to come to claim the sword. [4] The Ward Magic in Churetsu's chamber had three functions. First, it kept all the swords free of dust and grime. Second, the swords exchanged places with one another each night, so Churetsu was never in the same place twice. Third, Churetsu's copies magically slain any who touched them. After instituting this tradition, Bayushi Yojiro kept the identity of his heir secret. [5]

Cleaving the Steel Throne Edit

In 1200 the rebellious Daigotsu Kanpeki dueled the Scorpion Champion Bayushi Nitoshi in the Imperial Throne Room, and eventually the Steel Throne was cleaved by Churetsu. [6]
