Chi was the flow of spiritual energy inherent in all things, a harmonious balance of polar opposites that gives that extra "spark" to a living soul. It was referred to most-often in the context of shugenja magic, or with duelists, who harnessed their chi through personal discipline to accomplish the feats of their professions. ^{[citation needed]} It was believed the Chi was centered in the belly. ^[2]
