The Breaking Waves kata could only be performed with a katana and taught the Mirumoto Swordmaster one of Mirumoto's greatest lessons. Any tide could be stemmed, and any force could be used against itself. The kata emphasized defensive movements and techniques that proved the undoing of an opponent who wished to overpower the user with flashy strikes. ^[1]
