Battle of the Hour of the Wolf took place on the shores of the Red Lake.
Lion defeat[]
Ten thousand men died in one hour when the Bayushi and Doji forces rallied against an invading army of Matsu, destroying it. [1] The battle was fought entirely at night, illuminated only by torches and the luminescent spells of the shugenja accompanying the generals. The true extent of the carnage was unknown until the rays of the morning sun illuminated the walls of Beiden Pass. [2]
Aftermath[]
The losses on all sides were great, that the lake was said to have turned red from blood. The Lake of Shining Glass was named after it as Red Lake, and the river which run down from the lake was known as the River of the Hour of the Wolf. [1] Since this battle the Hour of the Wolf was renamed as Hour of the Dog to remove the unpleasant association with this battle. [2]
Scorpion assault[]
The battle was the precursor of a Scorpion assault on the Beiden Pass, but the Lion managed to defeat the invaders. [1]
