Bakufu was the Rokugani term that meaned “tent office” and referred to the military tent in which a general resided while he led his army. [1] It also referred to a general's personal advisors. In the 12th century it was used by the personal retinue of Akodo Kaneka, the first Shogun. [2]

Bakufu Titles Edit

  • Second General: it was the Shogun's right-hand man and the highest of his hatamoto. [3]
  • Master Percussionist: the Shogun was responsible of the court's percussion instruments and drums, and one of the Bakufu was always selected as Master Percussionist after the inception of the Shogunate. [4]
