Ashibumi was the first step of Kyujutsu, placing one's footing. The archer stoods with his left side facing his target, and pointed the toes of his left foot toward the target, then widened his stance so the space between his feet was the same distance as he drew a bow. Then he envisioned a line drawn from his back toes through his front toes and on through the target. Finally the archer moved his toes so they were at an angle of around sixty degree from one another, gaining stability in his stance. He was now prepared to align his body, a step known as dozukuri.
