Arrowroot tattoo takes it's name from the Arrowroot, one of the most potent healing herbs in Rokugan. It is named so because when the Tattooed Monk invokes the power of the tattoo he may heal himself or another person. When used upon another person, the tattoo however causes the monk himself to bleed, essentially transferring the damage from that person to the monk. This damage can only be healed by resting over time. (Way of the Dragon p. 43)
