• Toturi I is kidnapped by unknown forces. The Scorpion Clan is blamed for his disappearance.
• Takuan becomes Imperial Regent due to Toturi's disappearance.
• The Scorpion Clan is exiled to the Burning Sands by Emerald Champion Kakita Toshimoko. All Scorpion children under the age of 12 are fostered to the Crane Clan, as they would likely not survive the journey.
• Scorpion Clan Champion Bayushi Kachiko charges Ginawa and Matsu Hiroru with finding Toturi.
• Emerald Champion Kakita Toshimoko fakes his own death and assumes the persona of "the Grey Crane" to search for Toturi.
• Shinjo Shirasu assumes command of the Emerald Magistrates in the Emerald Champion's absence.
